Early Education José Rizal's first teacher was none other than his mother, Teodora. As early as the age of 3, young Rizal was taught the alphabet and a few prayers.
During these years of Rizal's early learning, Dona Teodora discovered her son's talent for writing poetry. A couple of years went by and Jose's parents hired Leon Monroy, a former class mate of Jose's father, to be his tutor. Only 5 months later, Monroy died leaving Rizal's parents the decision to send Jose off to Biñan for proper schooling in 1869. At Binan, he was a great academic pupil. He scored top grades in various subjects such as Spanish and Latin. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Studies At Ataneo In 1872, Jose started his at Ataneo de Municipal. Rizal wrote numerous poems while studying at Ataneo which included "Mi Primera Inspiracion," a poem Rizal dedicated to his mother.
